Today’s book insight is a memoir.
Not my genre.
But, this was a recommendation from Bill Gates. It must be worth reading.
If I remember correctly, he said that this is one of the best books he read in a certain year.
When I finished reading the book, I think Bill Gates was right.
Here are some insights from the book “Educated” by Tara Westover.
Through education, Tara formed her realities of the world instead of just seeing it from the lens of her father, mother, and Shawn, her abusive brother.
Because Tara was curious enough to want to know more about the world, it opened up many possibilities for her life. Through education, she was able to see the reality of life and succeed in it.
Listen to your voice
The worst hindrance to personal growth is being drowned out by the voice of other people’s opinions. Tara could have very well been stuck with her life if she continued to live the world according to her family’s lens. Good for her, she did not. She went on and carved an excellent path for her life and her success.
Knowledge is power
Education unlocks so many opportunities in life. I should never take it for granted. Otherwise, I may drown in ignorance. For Tara, this meant being educated in a university. For me and a lot of us, it may mean just never stopping to learn. Knowledge is indeed power.
5 out of 5.
It’s an essential read for this culture that doesn’t value education as much as we should.
